Y'EAU
Y’eau
Y’eau is a water quality testing app that helps people with limited access to clean water. The app facilitates a network of user-uploaded water sources by communities around the world.
The Context
Climate change is altering the world’s hydrological systems, putting water availability and quality at risk for 2.1 billion people globally. Due to the severe and widespread nature of this issue, the team decided to work on the topic of water contamination.
User flows & Sketching
After ideation, our team started working on the main use-case—testing water. We designed low-fidelity paper sketches and then vetted the flows with Marvel—a tool that creates a simple touch-through prototype. Following this, a detailed user flow for each use-case was sketched.
How does it work?
Y’eau works in conjunction with an external sensor that is attached to the phone. The app can be used as a tool to empower international volunteers and community officials—creating a network of comprehensive water analysis data. Below you can view the app’s core screens and their functionality.
Step 1 - Begin Water Test: Tap the the button to begin water test. This works in conjunction with an external sensor that the user puts in the water.
Step 2 - Uploading Water Source: After the water testing results are ready, the user inputs key information so that the water source can uploaded to the app and shared with the community.
Step 3 - Discovering Water Sources: The map mode shows where different water sources are located, the quality of the water, and the date they were posted.
Step 4 - Viewing Results: The user can check out the quality of the water source. The information provided shows what the water can be used for, and additionally, how it can be sanitized for different purposes, such as drinking, cooking, or cleaning.
Final Details
Flinto was used to animate graphics and transitions. Further prototyping and interactivity was done on Principle. Check out the video below to see a full walk through of Y’eau.
